Matcha tea caddies called "Natsume" in Japanese are used in Japanese tea ceremonies to hold the Matcha which will be used. They are very decorative little caddies which are often handcrafted and lacquered. Each one has its own unique design. They are made from wood, bamboo, paper or plastic. They get their name "Natsume" as a result of their resemblance to the fruit of the Chinese date tree. A true "Natsume" will always take on this shape. If the caddy doesn't resemble the fruit of the Chinese date tree then it is not regarded as a real "Natsume" tea caddy.
