Green Tea Benefits - Japanese tea is good for your health
Green tea is a very healthy beverage and it has many great health benefits, but many factors determine how good the tea really is. The main factors that determine how good it is, is the tea plant itself, the picking time and the cultivation methods.

The origins of the tea plant are very important in determining amino acid content. For example, a clone of a Yabukita tea plant will produce double the amino acids of a cloned Hatsumomiji tea plant.

The picking time is also very important. For example, the best quality Sencha is made from shoots of the first crop in early May, which have a much greater content of amino acids (especially theanine) than buds picked in late June.

Cultivation of Japanese green tea also affects the quality. Gyokuro and ceremony green tea powder(Matcha) are produced from fresh leaves of the first crop picked from shaded tea plants. By cultivating under shade the content of amino acids (theanine) and caffeine are kept at high levels in shoots. Therefore, the length of time the plants are shaded is very important.

A major benefit of green tea is its ability to fight cancer. Green tea has plenty of catechin polyphenols (ECGC epigallocatechin gallate) which is a powerful anti-oxidant. It prevents the growth of cancer cells without damaging healthy tissue.

ECGC also helps reduce the level of cholesterol. This compound lowers the amount of bad cholesterol (LDL) while increasing the amount of good cholesterol (HDL). It does this by increasing the number of LDL receptors in your liver. This will also decrease your chance of getting heart disease.

Green tea can also help prevent tooth decay. It helps to destroy bacteria and viruses in your mouth that can cause cavities, dental plaque, and tooth decay. It naturally contains fluoride which you can find in toothpaste or mouth wash. Most Japanese people wash their mouth out with green tea when returning home from work to kill bacteria in their mouth and throat to prevent getting a virus or cold.

Green tea is also believed to be a great way to protect your liver. Oxidants are naturally found in green tea. These oxidants guard the liver against toxins found in alcohol and cigarette smoke.

Another one of the benefits of green tea is its ability to help you lose weight. Drinking green tea has been shown to increase your rate of metabolism. It will also speed up fat oxidation. This will allow you to burn more calories than you normally would. Reducing the amount of calories in your body is an important factor when trying to lower your weight.

Green tea is also very rich in Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps to reduce stress levels and helps guard against the common cold and the flu. The level of Vitamin C in one cup of green tea is greater than the amount found in an orange. Green tea is also high in Vitamin B, which also helps reduce stress. This helps reverse the signs of aging.

It's recommended to drink two to four cups a day to receive the full health benefits of Green tea. The only reported negative side effect of green tea is insomnia. This is due to the fact that green tea has roughly half the amount of caffeine found in coffee. Keeping this in mind, try to avoid drinking green tea before you go to bed.
